Now that I have given birth to two kids, I consider myself somewhat of a pro in packing hospital bags. The first time when I was pregnant with Princess Peach I packed everything that was on my list from my prenatal class. I don’t’ think I used 10% of what I was told to pack! There was so much useless stuff.
There are essentials that you MUST bring or at least what I know you will use! Then there are some extras that you may or may not use and things that are totally useless to bring!
So here are my hospital bag essentials. They are what I brought to the hospital with me when I had Little Dude in July:
-newborn diapers (of course I use Pampers Swaddlers)
-wipes
-nursing tank tops and nursing bras if you plan on nursing
-comfy pajamas or sweats (make sure at least you have long sleeves as it can get cool)
-flip flops
-your own pillow with a bright coloured pillow case so it doesn’t get mixed up with other items
-thick pads. I used the Always Maxi Overnight Pads Heavy Flow with Wings
-disposable underwear or cheap underwear that you don’t mind throwing out. If you have a c-section make sure they are granny panty style so it won’t rub against your incision.
-hair elastics, clips, hairbands…..whatever you like to wear in your hair
-a large water bottle (ideally two. One for you and one for your partner)
-an outfit to take baby home in
-a infant car seat with light blanket
-newborn hats
-infant pacifiers
-toilettries such as hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body wash and face wipes
-snacks, snacks and more snacks! Also, sports drinks
-a small bag of items for your partner with a change of clothes, toothbrush, and toothpaste
-camera
-books, music, magazines, Ipad, computer….or whatever you like to do in your spare time or when you have quiet time in during labour or in the hospital
-chargers for phones, cameras, computer, etc
