Teaching little kids about the Earth with Netflix #streamteam

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

Last week when out with Princess Peach she noticed a coffee cup and some garbage on top of a newspaper box. She was very concerned as to why the coffee cup was there and not in the garbage can. That was the perfect teachable moment when I could discuss litter and start explaining how we have to take care of our earth. I’m pretty sure she understood because now when we are out she notices when garbage is on the ground.

As much as talking to a toddler is a great thing I often rely on books and shows to help reiterate and help explain more complex topics in a fun and engaging way! Yes, sometimes I can be boring or find myself at a loss for right words/explanation. Netflix has some great shows in their lineup for little kids to help teach them about our wonderful earth. We can’t underestimate these little people as they understand way more than we think. My job as a parent is to help educate my kids about the earth because it’s the only one we got and have to take care of it.

So today we celebrated  Earth Day by watching some of these great shows. One show we was watched Dinosaur Train: Stargazing on Night Train/ Get Into Nature and it’s a great way to teach our little ones all about the stars and constellations and how to build a nest. Princess Peach was completely mesmerized and very into the show! I love that she was learning something new, too!

One way I plan on teaching Princess Peach about the earth is through gardening. She has shown a lot of interest in gardening so this summer we will be planting and tending to a little garden, hopefully an urban edible one.  I’m just trying to figure out what exactly I plan on doing, but I will share our success!

How do you teach your children about the Earth?
