Starting 2018 off right

So, here we are. The last post for 2017. So crazy how quickly a year can go by and how many things can happen!

A lot of people in my news feeds over the past few days have shared their new years resolutions or have chosen a word to define the coming year. I’m not going to do either of those. First of all, I’m the queen of NOT following through on my new years resolutions so I’ve learned to not make them. Do you know how many years I’ve joined a gym the first week in January, because my goal was to get fit, only for that goal to quickly fade away. Instead of going to the gym, I was their favourite customer as I was making monthly donations! Ha! Then there are people who are choosing a word to define the coming year. I prefer that to making a resolution but still I feel that if I go off track and don’t/can’t follow through I’m letting myself down.

Instead of choosing resolutions and/or a word of the year, I’m going to set myself up for as much success as I can with things that make me happy, bring joy into my life and inspire me a long the way. I’ve learned over the years that “self-care” should be a priority in my life (as in all of ours) because if we don’t take care of ourselves how can we take care of others?

 Meditation

I first got introduced to mindfulness meditation as I was trying to heal from all of my treatments. It’s one thing to heal your body but its’a whole other can of worms to heal your mind and soul. For a while I was practicing regularly, and then I introduced my kids to it. They loved it and often use it as a tool to fall asleep. Recently, I have not been doing as much as I like to. So, I will be setting myself up for meditation success by carving time out of my busy schedule for me to practice. A yoga mat or a meditation pillow, along with my favourite apps to play will give me time for my mind and soul to be nourished.

Daily Dose of Inspiration

I love so many quotes and have shared some favourites over the years on my blog and on Instagram. So many quotes have helped me at certain times through certain things, so focusing on having a daily dose of inspiration will help inspire me daily. This page-a-day happiness calendar is just the perfect dose of daily happiness and inspiration every needs in their life.  I smile every time I see this mug. Who wouldn’t want to be told they are amazing when drinking their morning cup of coffee?! Then there are these fridge magnets which I find so happy to look at! Each of  these magnets are sure to change your mindset just by reading them with some inspirational quotes such as these:

You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing

She believed she could so she did

Life is like a camera, focus on what’s important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out…..just take another shot!”

Things That Make Me Happy

There are so many things that make me happy, but over the years I’ve learned that it doesn’t take much to make in happy. In fact, a cup of coffee in the morning or a latte makes me happy. So having a coffee machine at home brings lots of happiness into my morning routine. A good coffee tumbler is also good to have because chances of me drinking HOT coffee is usually very slim because being a parent 🙂 I enjoy getting my nails done in pretty colours and I’ve rotated between dark blues, and greys lately. Doing a face mask once a week makes me happy and makes my face feel great!

self care

So there you have it friends! Some of the things that I will be doing in 2018 to keep me happy and bring out the best in me!

How will you take care of your self in 2018?

Happy New Year!
