We are half-way through March Break already which is pretty hard to believe! I’ve been busy keeping Princess Peach busy with a variety of activities and play dates with friends. Yesterday, we did something so fun that we had never done before! We were treated to an amazing afternoon tea at The Omni King Edward hotel in Toronto. High tea has been a tradition at the hotel for over 100 years and this is the first time that it has extended its tea service to kids during March Break. I’ve had high tea many times before but never at The Omni King Edward hotel. Princess Peach has played tea party many times at home, but this was a new and exciting experience for her to be able to experience a traditional high tea. We were so happy that our friends Miss N and her mom joined us for the fun!
Upon being seated at our table, there were two boxes on top for the adults to be able to smell the varieties of tea that they offer. I thought it was pretty neat that the two tea companies that are served are Canadian. The kids were treated to hot chocolate served in their beautiful tea cups with a side of marshmallows. The girls loved it! Princess Peach asked for a side of whoop cream (that’s what she calls whipped cream) which was also provided for her.
The girls were each given a little backpack and a crown to wear. The backpack had a very cute twirly straw, a matching game, crayons, and an activity book. I thought this was a very nice touch, especially towards the end when the adults wanted to finish our food, the girls had something to keep them busy.
Then we were served our treats. The girls had the Jester’s tea which is for kids 12 and under. They were presented with all their yummy treats on one plate which included double-decker grilled cheese, a jelly pinwheel on a stick, bite-sized Nutella on banana bread sandwich, a scone filled with cream and strawberries, a sugar cookie and a cupcake. The girls were thrilled and the presentation was so cute!
The adults had the Traditional Winter Tea which started off with a duck confit bundle on top a plum and ginger chutney. I have never had duck before but was adventurous and tried it! It was delicious and very tasty. We were then served a variety of savoury tea sandwiches which was followed by scones and a variety of scrumptious pastries. The scones paired with the house made strawberry preserves were incredible! Another favourite of mine was the banoffee tart which beyond amazing! It was banana cream heaven. Yum! I do have multiple food allergies and they were very accommodating and substituted in other items which was very appreciated!
The afternoon was so lovely and a great experience for all of us. In addition to eating amazing food, drinking tea and hot chocolate, we were able to chit-chat and just enjoy being together. It was so fun to hear the girls say that “this was the best day ever!” I had to agree, this was the perfect afternoon!
It’s not too late to join in the fun. If you are looking for something special to do with your kids in the next few days, high tea at The Omni King Edward hotel is a great experience! High tea times are Thursday March 17 to Saturday March 19 from 1:30pm-5:30 pm and Sunday March 20 from 2:30-5:30pm. Reservations can be made online or by calling 416-863-4125.
Enjoy!
What a lovely experience!! I hope they do this again next March Break, too!
It was such a fun experience. Princess Peach can’t stop talking about it!
