Healthy Snacking with Maple Leaf Natural Selections Protinis #review & #giveaway

I can’t begin to tell you how many meals I have missed this year. It’s happened way too many times to count. Usually around 3 pm my tummy starts to grumble and then I realize that I forgot to eat breakfast and lunch and I’m starving! At that time usually both kids are waking up from their nap and I just need to shove something in my mouth so I can function for the rest of the day. What do I grab? Usually something that is quick and easy which is also known as junk! As healthy as I like to be if I haven’t  prepared something and left it in the fridge in advance chances are I’ll make a quick peanut butter sandwich, grab trail mix or (gasp!) a small handful of chocolate chips! I know so unhealthy!!

As most of my snacks aren’t the healthiest I love discovering new healthy options to fill me up! According to a Harris Decima survey, more than half (52 per cent) of Canadians snack at least twice a day, 71 per cent are seeking healthier snacking options and 85 per cent of Canadians prefer a snack that leaves them feeling fuller, longer.

I was given the opportunity to try out Maple Leaf Natural Selection Protinis. Made with delicious roasted chicken and dried fruit it is a complete protein snack. They range from 70-110 calories per 1 package (65 grams) and the snack has two individually wrapped packages. There are 8 different flavour choices available:

  • Oven Roasted Chicken and Superfruit
  • Sweet Thai Chili Chicken
  • Oven Roasted Chicken and Cranberry
  • Mild Salsa Chicken
  • Oven Roasted Chicken and Mango
  • Honey Garlic Chicken
  • Oven Roasted Chicken and Apple
  • Oven Roasted Chicken

According to Sue Mah, registered dietitian and nutrition expert, “Complete protein contains all of the essential amino acids your body needs and cannot produce on its own,” Some examples of foods with complete protein are milk, eggs, fish, meat and poultry, like the oven-roasted chicken bites in PROTINISâ„¢. This type of protein helps slow down the digestion of food, keeping you feeling fuller, longer, and protein snacking can support physical activity and weight management goals by building and repairing muscles and tissues.”

I’m very picky when it comes to meat. I was a bit of a crazy vegetarian for 10 years so when I introduced meat back into my diet I became a picky meat-eater. I’m picky about where I buy my meat, how it’s cooked and was a tad skeptical about trying Protinis. But, I have to tell you that I was won over. It was juicy, and tasted great! I tried the Honey Garlic chicken. It is awesome! It is a sweet and tangy snack that is ready to eat any time I need it!  Even Princess Peach who doesn’t eat meat ate it! I know right? Amazing! Protinis are a very versatile snack. I love that The Hubster will be able to take them to work and instead of grabbing a unhealthy snack at the end of the day he can pull one of these out to snack on.  It is a perfect addition to a wrap or pita sandwich, a salad or just by itself on the go! They really are the perfect serving to satiate your appetite and satisfy you all at the same time!
