Just pee in the toilet! A glimpse into toilet training a toddler

Toilet Training a Toddler

“Do you have to pee?”

That has been me for the past 3 days.

“Are you sure you don’t have to pee?”

“Really? It’s been a while”

“Why don’t we try to sit for a few minutes?”

Think of bribe.

“I have a surprise for you if you sit for a few minutes!”

“Are you sure? It’s an amazing surprise! Let’s just try”

Think of bigger bribe. Ice cream cake. Who doesn’t love that?! At 9 AM!

“Let’s just sit on the toilet and chill for a few. Maybe a pee will come?”

“Can I get you the iPad so you can watch Netflix?”

“Sure, you can watch whatever show you like”

“Let’s just sit for a few minutes and watch our show on the toilet”

“Oh, the pee isn’t coming?”

“Well I’m sure Barbie uses a toilet too. She’s in big girl Barbie underwear you know.”

“You know who else pees in the toilet? I do, and daddy does…..”

“Oh, you are right. We are girls and we sit. Yes, Daddy does stand and pee in the bushes. Only at the cottage though. Not in the city”

“Well, boys do stand to pee. But we are girls! Girl power and we sit.”

“It’s not time to get off yet. Why are you coming off the toilet?”

“I don’t think you need to stretch your toes. They weren’t working hard.”

“Ok so stretch all of your toes and fingers. Jump up and down a few times. Maybe the pee will come”.

“Uh oh, Bo on the Go is done. Umm….what happened to Barbie?”

“Ok. Well can you please come back into the bathroom?”

One hour later

“Run……run………run…..!”

“Hooray! There it is! You made a pee in the toilet.”

“Let’s get ice cream cake!”

REPEAT ALL DAY LONG!

Can any of you relate to this when you toilet trained your children?

Very funny blog! I do remember sitting the kid on the potty whenever I felt the call of nature. We spent a fair amount of time in the washroom…

I felt brave enough to venture out of the house this morning! I couldn’t stand be in our bathroom for another full day! Luckily she stayed dry the entire time!

Thanks Maya! I’ve probably had some of our funniest conversations to date with her on the toilet the past 3 days.

Potty training is a blur now. I do remember a lot of begging and cajoling and wet pants though. I think stickers on a chart finally started to work for us. Best of luck!

Thanks Deb! Day 4 and only one teeny accident. She’s also using a toilet in public with no issues! She’s a total superstar!

We are trying to work on potty training but it is an uphill battle. Thanks for the good laugh and making feel like there is still a little hope!
