Fridge Crisis aka. We need food!

Yesterday afternoon I opened the fridge to get a snack. It was pretty empty. All of our veggies had been eaten up and only one apple was left until Princess Peach wanted a snack. That apple disappeared instantaneously.

Since I have started back at work one thing that has been difficult to become a routine is grocery shopping. It’s not that it’s not important. It’s just that there seem to be 1,000 other things that seem to come in the way or become more important at that moment! I find grocery shopping very difficult to do during the week. The Hubster and I have one car and I have it during the week as my workplace is the farthest away. There are many grocery stores on my way home from work BUT that means that Princess Peach would most likely be at daycare an hour later than usual which means her dinner would be later which means I would have to deal with a very crabby hungry toddler. No thank you. I could pick her up and take her with me BUT taking a 15 month old to the grocery store is a fine balance of keeping them happy and entertained and keeping them in the shopping cart! Preferably I like to go by myself.

Sad as it is, Saturday evenings often become my time to go to the grocery store. It’s never busy, I don’t have to wait very long to check out (if I have to wait at all) and I have zero distractions. But, this is NOT how I want to be spending my Saturday nights at all. It makes me sad sometimes when I’m wandering through the isles trying to figure out what I’m going to make for dinner that the old me would have been out for dinner at a trendy restaurant or at a fun bar!

So The Hubster and I decided after last nights late shopping expedition that we have to do something! So we are looking into ordering groceries online. Part of me LOVES the idea and party of me isn’t so keen on it. I like to choose and inspect all of my produce before I buy it and I’m not so sure that the produce will be up to my standards. Also, I like to get the best deal and I’m not sold that I will be getting the best deal when ordering online. Yes, you are paying for convenience but it that cost worth it? I’m not so sure. I’ve also been followed by numerous people in line while checking out the past little while who price check or use coupons. I have started to take it as a sign. Yes, maybe a crazy sign and something that I might not have time to do but I like to save money on groceries too. Well, who doesn’t?

So, what’s a girl to do? We need food but we need to find a time that works for us that is NOT a Saturday night.

What do you do? How do you get the grocery shopping done?!

Awww I couldn’t help yah even if I wanted to…don’t have any kids yet lol! Good luck sweetie finding something that works for you!

  2. I used to do online, but didn’t like paying so much fro groceries to be delivered. That said in the nicer weather we were going together on Saturday morning as a family, which had its perks, but also could be a pain. The girls both have dance on Saturday morning and my hubby actually just volunteered to do the shopping while they are in class and I am waiting at the dance studio for them. We shall see how this works out. Hope ordering online works for you and just know you aren’t alone with this.

In the warmer weather we walk to a Saturday farmers market and buy fresh from the farm produce there which I love! You are lucky to have a husband who volunteered to go grocery shopping! The grocery store is one of my husbands most hated places so no way he would ever volunteer to go there!

that’s why doggy bagging all-you-can-eat breakfasts is the way to go. Shame on you Renee and Hubster! You should have ordered another plate of sausage/pancakes/scrambled eggs/roasted potatoes/fresh fruit and taken it to-go. There’s nothing like day old eggs 😉

Lindy, I could have eaten the day old potatoes. I should have gotten those doggy bagged! The thought of day old eggs make me want to puke 🙂

We just started ordering online and love it. I agree with you that you can’t always get the same discounts, but even the online store has their own sales so you can still catch a break sometimes. I just got tired of having to squeeze grocery shopping in on the weekend when I’d rather be spending that time with the family doing something much more fun. To me,it’s totally worth every penny.

Thanks for your comment Erica! We are going to try it and see how it goes. I’m still not sold on someone picking out my produce but it’s defintely worth a shot to save time!
