Dreidel Pinata Cookies

dreidelpinata2

Last year, Princess Peach and I were introduced to YouTube cooking sensation Rosanna Pansino’s show Nerdy Nummies. If you haven’t watched it yet she makes extraordinary treats that are inspired by comic books, anime, fantasy, sci-fi and video games. Princess Peach and I have watched so many of her episodes yet we haven’t actually recreating any of her recipes. Until now. Kind of. Ro didn’t make a dreidel on her show for Chanukah, but I was inspired by her to try making a pinata (stuffed) cookie of my own!

Chanukah starts tomorrow and we are getting all ready at my house. This morning Princess Peach put up her chanukah window stickers, we made a banner (that she wants to hang in her bedroom) and the table-cloth and decorations will be put up later today. Tomorrow, we will get all of our menorahs out, and attend our first of many Chanukah celebrations!

Combining the amounts of YouTube cooking shows I’ve watched with Chanukah, I’ve created pretty simple Dreidel Pinata Cookie for you to make!

I choose to use pre-made Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and pre-made frosting but you can use any of your favourite sugar cookie and frosting recipes if you want to make it from scratch!

Ingredients:

1 tube of pre-made Sugar Cookie Dough

1 tub of vanilla frosting

blue food colouring

blue icing gel

1 bag of mini m&m’s

1 large dreidel cookie cutter

1 small drediel cookie cutter. Note: You can use any small shape as long as there is a large enough lip around for the icing to stick and hold in the m&m’s

Any other small sprinkles to decorate

You will also need a small  Ziploc bag, a small mixing bowl, a spoon, a rolling pin, some flour, 2 baking sheets, cutting board.

Directions:

  1. Follow the directions on the package of the pre-made cookie dough to roll out dough.
  2. Using the large dreidel cookie cutter once the dough is rolled out flat, start stamping the dough with your dreidel cookie cutter.
  3. Using the small dreidel cookie cutter, stamp every third cookie, with a small hole in the middle.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 until all of the dough is used up

6. Let cookies cool on cookie sheet for 10 minutes and then transfer to wire rack to cool

7. While the cookies are cooling dump the vanilla frosting into a small bowl. Using the blue colouring, add a few drops and mix until the colour of blue you want is achieved.

8. Transfer the icing using a large spoon into a small Ziploc Bag. Push all of the icing to one corner and cut a small hole in the tip.

9. Once the cookies are completely cooled, at least half an hour it is time to assemble the cookies.

10. Place a flat cookie on the bottom. Then pipe the icing from the Ziploc bag all around the edge of the cookie.

Once you have decorate all the cookies, leave them for at least an hour to let the frosting harden before serving. If there are any cookies left over, they can be kept in an airtight container for a few days.

This is such a fun and easy to recipe that is sure to be a hit at any Chanukah celebration! For those of you who start celebrating tomorrow, Chag Sameach!
